Cycle 1 – Grants Programme 2014
As endorsed at the BACF Board Meeting held on 22 July 2013, the first cycle of grants under the Baa Atoll Conservation Fund (BACF) was approved with a total allocation of MVR 1,542,000.00 (One Million Five Hundred and Fourty Two Thousand Maldivian Rufiya) .
Under this grant cycle, the maximum amount that could be awarded to an individual grant was set at MVR 231,300.00 (Two Hundred and Thirty One Thousand Three Hundred Maldivian Rufiya). The grants were intended to support initiatives contributing to conservation, livelihood and eduation, awareness and research within the Baa Atoll Biosphere Reserve.
The following areas were identified as beneficiaries for grants for 2014 under Conservation and Management of biological and natural resources, biodiversity and nature protection in Baa Atoll:
- Project proposals on sustainable aquaculture programs focusing on Ornamental Fishery.
- Project proposals on Community engagement programs related to biodiversity and environmental protection.
The following areas are identified as beneficiaries for grants for 2013/2014 under Livelihood
- Agriculture: Project proposals on Composting and use of environment friendly fertilizers
- Handicraft Works: Project proposals on extensions of existing lacquer works activities undertaken in the atoll or new initiatives to be undertaken.
- Other areas: Project proposals on adding value to the existing livelihood improvement work undertaken by the community.
The following areas are identified as beneficiaries for grants for 2013/2014 under Awareness raising, Education and Research program:
- Project proposals on awareness and research programs on Baa Atoll UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.
A total of 26 proposals was received by Baa Atoll Conservation Fund (BACF) upon its Invitation for Call for proposals. Out of the 26 proposals 14 proposals were shortlisted BACF Board for approval from which 7 proposals were given the green light for funding by the Board.
