The greenhouse and hydroponics project was proposed by the Dharavandhoo Development Cooperative Society (DDCS) with the objective of establishing a greenhouse-based hydroponics facility in Dharavandhoo and developing local capacity in hydroponic farming.

As part of the project, site clearing was completed at the designated location for the construction of the greenhouse. In addition, staff of DDCS participated in hydroponics training in Malé to develop the technical knowledge required for the implementation and management of the project.

Procurement arrangements were also initiated, and an order was placed for the greenhouse, materials required for fencing the site, and other items necessary for the construction and operation of the facility. The delivery of the greenhouse and related materials to Dharavandhoo was anticipated by the end of the year.

Following the arrival of the greenhouse, the project planned to proceed with its installation at the designated site. The project also included plans to provide practical training to community members who had expressed interest in participating in the initiative, including school students. Specialists in hydroponics were expected to travel to Dharavandhoo to provide the necessary technical training and support.

However, during the implementation period, DDCS informed that there had been a change in the management of the Cooperative Society, including the appointment of a new President. Following the change in management, the new leadership decided to discontinue the project.

As a result, the project could not be implemented to completion and the planned greenhouse facility, community training, and associated activities did not proceed as originally intended. The project was therefore declared unsuccessful.

Despite the project not reaching its intended outcome, the site preparation and initial capacity-building activities were completed, including the hydroponics training provided to DDCS staff. The discontinuation of the project was attributed primarily to the change in management and the subsequent decision by DDCS to withdraw from the project.
