The Stage 2 Marine Biology Internship Programme 2026 was successfully conducted from 14–19 September 2026 at Four Seasons Maldives at Landaa Giraavaru, bringing together 13 students from nine islands across Baa Atoll.

The programme was conducted by Reefscapers Maldives, in partnership with Four Seasons Maldives at Landaa Giraavaru and the Baa Atoll Biosphere Reserve Office, providing young Maldivians with an opportunity to explore the diverse field of marine biology and marine conservation.

The internship introduced students to key areas including coral reef ecosystems, marine life, conservation, environmental monitoring and scientific research. Through hands-on activities and learning alongside marine science and conservation professionals, participants gained practical knowledge and a deeper understanding of the marine ecosystems that surround the islands of Baa Atoll.

The programme forms part of a wider Marine Biology Internship initiative aimed at providing students with practical exposure to marine science and encouraging greater interest in careers related to marine research and environmental conservation.

Earlier in July 2026, 19 students from 11 islands across Baa Atoll completed Stage 1 of the 2026 Marine Biology Internship Programme.

The programme also builds on the 2025 Marine Biology Internship Programme, during which nine students from eight islands n the success of the completed the third stage of the programme.

Across its different stages, the internship has provided students from communities throughout Baa Atoll with opportunities to learn directly from marine science and conservation professionals and develop practical knowledge of the marine environment.

The Baa Atoll Biosphere Reserve Office, together with its partners, remains committed to creating opportunities for young people to engage in learning, research and conservation, while encouraging the next generation to play an active role in protecting and sustainably managing the marine ecosystems of Baa Atoll and the Maldives.
