The Baa Atoll Biosphere Reserve Office together with Baa Atoll Conservation Fund successfully concluded the second round of its Outreach Programme with a final session held at Baa Kendhoo School.

These sessions were conducted as part of the celebrations for both World Environment Day and World Oceans Day, bringing environmental awareness and conservation messages directly to students across the atoll from 8 to 11 June 2026.

More than 150 students from Baa Kendhoo School, Baa Atoll School (Dharavandhoo), Baa Maalhos School, and Baa Dhonfanu School participated in the programme, which was carried out under the BR Schools Programme—an initiative launched in early 2026 to strengthen environmental awareness and engagement among students and teachers throughout Baa Atoll.

Earlier in April, the programme was delivered at Kamadhoo School, Kihaadhoo School, and Kudarikilu School. With the completion of this second round, the BR Schools Programme has now reached 8 schools and engaged a total of 237 students and numerous school teachers across the atoll.

Interactive sessions focused on the importance of conservation efforts and protected areas, the ecological value of mangroves, the impacts of ocean plastics, and the significance of the Baa Atoll Biosphere Reserve in safeguarding our unique natural heritage.

Designed for students from Grade 7 and above, the BR Schools Programme combines classroom-based learning with planned field visits throughout the atoll, providing valuable hands-on experiences that deepen understanding of environmental stewardship and sustainable living.

Together, we can inspire the next generation to protect and preserve the natural treasures of Baa Atoll for years to come.

The next round of the BR Schools Programme is scheduled for late June, with visits planned to schools in the southern part of the atoll.
