Manta season 2023 comes to a end

Manta season 2023 has come to an end as there have bee no sightings on mantas during the last week as we are on the verge on mosoonal change south-west to northeast monsoon.
The first manta sighting in Baa at hanifaru bay was observed on 5 May 2023 and as it is the end of manta season we hope that all those who woked with us had a wonderful time with these gentle giants.
It's back to the drawing board now, learn from this season, exchange experiences and be better equipped and ready for next season.as will be reaching out soon to all stakeholders soon to discuss preparations,experience ,collaborations etc. to better manage hanifau bay.
Government declares 4 more protected areas in Baa Atoll

Four more areas of Baa Atoll have been declared protected by the government. This decision follows the cabinet's recommendation and was made after a thorough cabinet deliberation on a paper submitted by the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, and Technology.
The four areas that will be granted protected status under the Environmental Protection and Preservation Act (Law No. 04/93) include Huraifaru Region, Dharavandhoo Thila, Nelivaru Region, and Innafushi Region.
Each area has been identified as having rich ecosystems that host various fauna and marine species and their preservation is deemed crucial for future generations of Maldivians and the total number of protected areas in Baa Atoll now sum up to fourteen.
Minister Shauna meets Baa Atoll Council

The Minister of Climate Change, Environment, Energy and Technology Ms.Aminath Shauna has met with members of Baa Aoll Council today.The main discussion points of the meeting in the meeting included proteceted area management, new areas proposed for protection in the atoll and conservation finance.
The Minister is scheduled to visit 3 protected areas during this visit namely hanifaru bay, mendhoo region and olhugiri during the course of the 3 day visit to the atoll.
The trip will come to an end with a meeting with the resource users from the tourism sector scheduled for this Saturday.

Baa Atoll Manta season is getting closer and closer!
As the month of April is considered monsoonal transitional period from northeast to southwest monsoon and the mantas should start moving to Baa Atoll from nearby atolls in Maldives.
We are counting first day southwest monsoon locally known as "HULAHGU MOOSUN" we have aready noticed that these gentle giants are coming back home to hanifaru bay and we have had the first sighting of the season in Hanifaru Marine Protected Area today

Coral Restoration project with Baa Atoll Schools intiated

On the occasion of 50th anniversary of Maldives tourism industry Baa Atoll UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Office and Baa Atoll Council collaborated to initiate the "Coral restoration project" at Baa Atoll Fulhadhoo on 27th August 2022.
Baa Atoll UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Office and Baa Atoll Council collaborated on this project with the aim of teaching students how to rebuild coral reefs in Baa Atoll and al 13 schools in Baa Atoll now have a coral frame of their own in the lagoon of every island.
